Our Lebanese charcoal chicken has been a game-changer in Australia since 1998. Cooked over open charcoal, it boasts an irresistible smoky flavour that keeps our fans coming back for more.

From our signature tawouk to our famous family feasts, every dish is a tribute to our Lebanese heritage. Slow-cooked, perfectly spiced, and served with our legendary toum (garlic sauce) – that’s the El Jannah way.

The Best Charcoal Chicken in Melbourne CBD

We grill every chicken slowly over charcoal with our Lebanese spice blend, the way our families did back in Lebanon. The recipe hasn’t changed since the first El Jannah opened in Granville in 1998. Order a quarter, half or whole chicken with toum, pickles and bread, or grab a roll if you’re eating on the move.

Prefer your chicken off the bone? Charcoal tawouk (marinated chicken pieces grilled over the coals) goes into rolls, sesame pockets and boxes. Pair any charcoal order with chicken-salted chips and a side of hommuos or tabouli.

Never tried El Jannah so a workmate and I decided to check it out. I chose the quarter chicken and was presented with the choice of breast or leg, chooaing the former. I also got a small chips to with it. The chips are reasonably crunchy but not seasoned so I asked one of the staff for more salt and got a good shake of chicken salt added. Still no seasoning. Surprisingly after eating all the chips I could see all the salt gathered at the bottom and tipped it all into my mouth - barely any saltiness! I can only conclude this is saltless salt. The chips were pretty bland as a result and the basics of chips are crunchy chips with sufficient seasoning. The chicken has a delicious flavour of the charcoal and is seasoned. The flesh is hot and juicy and is delicious. Dunking that in to the garlic sauce peovides additional flavour and makes for a good meal. Fix up the chips and this is a pretty good meal.

This is a nice spot for a quick chicken meal, with good, average fast-food options. It’s worth trying if you’re looking for something quick and convenient. However, the portion size is a little small for the price. I paid around AUD 17 for this meal. It’s also conveniently located near a tram station.

I have been to multiple El Jannah locations but I must say Yehez is the definition of excellent customer service. You would expect less from the city and such a busy spot compared to other locations but he is extremely helpful and makes sure customers are taken care of.
